7.30 pm, St Mary’s Church
Tickets no longer available online. Tickets will be available on the door so please come along
A unique opportunity to take part in a full performance of Handel’s much-loved masterwork.
First performed in Dublin in 1742, this may be its debut performance in Redbourn, a mere 268 years later. The Irish première occured just four years before the infamous Battle of Culloden presided over by the younger son of George II: Prince William, Duke of Cumberland, Marquess of Berkhamstead, whose hunting lodge survives in Redbourn today as Cumberland House.
So come together to form the Redbourn Festival Chorus even if you have little or no classical singing experience: we will offer informal, fun rehearsals beforehand.
On performance day we will be joined by professional soloists and Symphonia Academica orchestra under their conductor David Beaman (a Redbourn villager).
Even if you don’t want to sing, then come along to support!
Choir Rehearsals will be held on the following Wednesdays in St Mary’s Church from 7.30 till 9.45: 23rd & 30th June, 7th & 14th July. These are voluntary but can only happen if enough people sign-up for them (details will be provided when you buy your Singer’s ticket). There will also be a full rehearsal with the orchestra on the day from 2.30 till 5pm which you must attend.
In order to ensure a good balance, singer numbers will be limited by part (Sopranos, Altos, Tenors & Basses), so make sure you book good and early.
| Tickets: | Full Price | Concessions |
| Singers‡ | £12 | £9 |
| Audience | £8.50 | £6.50 |
‡ Singers’ tickets include all prior rehearsals and music hire. Singers tickets can ONLY be bought from the box office in order to balance the choir based on voice part.

I have been trying to find out about the Come and Sing “Messiah”. Is it too late to come to the rehearsals next week and take part? I sing Alto. I came today to find the Box Office or anyone who could help me, without success, as I note that I had to register in person and buy a ticket. Please let me know whether it is possible or I am too late.
Many thanks
Linda Marchment
Are singers tickets for the Messiah still available? I’m a bass, but unfortunately
wheelchair-bound: so the next question is, can I get into the church?
I’ve sung Messiah several times before, and would love to do it again.
Happy to make the Wednesday or Thursday rehearsal – which is it please?
I’ve only just seen these queries. There are still vacancies for Tenors and Basses (sadly full to Sops and Altos) and rehearsals are both tonight (Wednesday at 8.15 and tomorrow (Thurs) at 7.30pm and singers’ tickets can be bought at tonight’s.
There is wheelchair access to church but we’ll need to be creative about how to get wheelchair access to the performers’ space (but not a showstopper).
If Geoff wants to sing I suggest he calls me on 07736 384229 and we’ll figure something out.

Hello —
My name is Justine Barda and I am an American graduate student doing some research on the popularity of the scratch Messiah. Specifically, I wonder if you could tell me how many years this particular event has been going on, how much tickets cost, and what your ticket sales or attendance figures have been for the past decade (approximately).
I’d be very grateful for any information that you’re able to provide. I’d also be interested to hear about any other scratch Messiahs that you’d suggest I investigate.
If you could, please reply to me at jbarda@gamil.com.
Best regards,
Justine Barda
Is this a genuine request-why not get info via google?
